Types of Canine Aggression...

  • Fear Aggression,  This can be from not properly socializing your puppy.  Dogs like people often fear the unknown.
  • Animal Aggression -  Because a dog is animal aggressive does NOT mean that dog will be aggressive towards a person!  These are 2 entirely different forms of aggression.
  • Territorial Aggression,  Again early socialization is key along with your status of alpha.  If you are alpha, they should not feel the need to protect their territory from everyone!
  • Possession Aggression, this can be food, bed, toys, treats, or even people.   This is another thing that can be reduced by early training and socializtion.   The enforcment of you being the alpha will reduce them as seeing you as possession.   When they are puppies it's important for you to take their toys while playing and reward them for not arguing.   When feeding puppies, take some kibble and feed from your hand.
  • Redirected Aggression,  this is a hard one to pinpoint and it takes alot of work and paitence to correct.   Example, you have 2 dogs in the back yard, another dog walks by the fence and your dogs start growling and barking at the 3rd dog.  One of the 2 dogs can get so hyped up from the 3rd dogs presence that it turns on your other dog.
  • Maternal Aggression. The need to protect their puppies.
  • Dominance Aggression,  Canines live in a pack with a hierarchal system.  You as the owner must be the Alpha at all times.  There are ways to re-enforce this status on a daily or as needed basis.   Understanding canine behavior can help with this form of aggression.  For instance,  staring at a dog can be considered a challange.  you should never maintain eye contact with an unknown dog.
  • Play Aggression
  • Pain Aggression
  • Human Aggression
